Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get on the phone, answered the same way we'd answer them on the phone. If yours isn't here, call (901) 467‑7607.

Pricing and estimates

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Estimates are free.

What's the $135 minimum?

If we come out to troubleshoot a problem or perform work, there's a $135 minimum plus parts. Diagnosis is real work, so we charge for it. If you accept our proposal for the repair, the $135 is credited to the job.

Do you publish prices?

Where we can. Typical EV charger installs run $700 to $1,200 in labor and materials when you supply the charger. Typical panel replacements run $1,800 to $2,600. Everything else is quoted after we've seen it, because the price depends on what's in the wall.

Do you offer financing?

Not at the moment.

Permits and MLGW

Do I need a permit for an EV charger in Memphis or Bartlett?

Yes for a new 240-volt circuit. We pull the electrical permit and submit a load calculation to MLGW as part of the job.

What does MLGW have to do with my charger or panel?

When you add a large load, MLGW needs to know the service can carry it. We send them a load calculation. If they have to upgrade something on their side, they charge a fee, and that fee is the customer's responsibility. We'll tell you early if we think that's likely.

Who pulls the permit?

We do. It's part of the price.

EV chargers

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Most take one day. Long runs through finished walls, trenching to a detached garage, or a panel replacement can extend that.

Are you a Tesla Certified Installer?

Yes. Square One Electric is a Tesla Certified Installer listed on Tesla's installer locator, and a ChargePoint Certified Installer.

Why do you want me home at the end of the install?

Most chargers connect to your Wi-Fi during startup. We'd rather get the app talking to the unit while we're standing there than have you troubleshoot it alone that night.

Can you install a charger I already bought?

Yes. Tell us the brand and model.

Panels

When does a panel need to be replaced?

When it's a fuse box, a Federal Pacific, or a Sylvania Zinsco; when breakers trip repeatedly or won't hold; when there are scorch marks or heat; or when there's no room for a load you're adding, like an EV charger. We troubleshoot before recommending replacement.

How much does a panel replacement cost?

Typically $1,800 to $2,600. The range is mostly about what current code requires when a panel is opened up.

Warranty

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. One year on parts and workmanship.

Hours and after-hours

What are your hours?

Phones are answered Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 4:30.

Do you take emergency or weekend calls?

After-hours and weekend calls are for existing customers and people they refer. If you're new to us and it can't wait, leave a message and we'll call back first thing. If something is smoking or sparking, cut the breaker and call the fire department first.

Service area

Where do you work?

Shelby County, Tennessee: Bartlett, Memphis, Germantown, Collierville, Cordova, Arlington, Millington, and Lakeland. We're based in Bartlett.

Do you go outside Shelby County?

How do I pay?
